vivo has recently announced OriginOS 7, its latest software system, on September 21 in Shanghai, China.

In a press release sent to Tekku Philippines, the latest software is said to bring improved performance, cross-device connectivity, and personal AI capabilities to vivo's latest smartphones — the vivo X500 series and new X Fold and V series smartphones — which will be available later this year. Further details on Philippine availability will be announced by the brand via official channels.

OriginOS 7: Faster performance, cross-ecosystem connectivity, and 'Jovi'

Origin Smooth Engine

Part of this release introduces Origin Smooth Engine, 'which brings improvements to graphics computation, memory management, and system scheduling.' It helps vivo smartphones process resources based on demand, maintaining responsiveness during demanding activities such as gaming, multitasking, and extended video sessions.

To prove this, vivo conducted internal testing. According to the latter, OriginOS 7 reduces app cold start time by 10% and improves app page switching by 11%. Memory Fusion offers 60% greater memory reclamation and can free up to 25GB of additional storage on a 256GB smartphone, subject to vivo's test conditions.

OriginOS 7 also went under a 72-month anti-aging test in vivo labs, underscoring its commitment to long-term performance.

Origin Workbench

Origin Workbench can also be seen in this new release, which vivo decribes 'a new multitasking experience that lets users coordinate up to five active applications within a unified task space'.

According to them, the way it works is that, instead of every activity being on a separate screen, OriginOS 7 brings them together in one space, 'helping users stay focused while doing more.'

Origin Animation

One way to enjoy vivo's newest software release are physics-inspired interaction, consistent motion, and fluid touch movements, which all are present in OriginOS 7. vivo calls this Origin Animation, which has Fluid Motion and Spring Animation.

Fluid Motion allows interface elements to stretch, bounce, and merge based on touch movement, while Spring Animation applies consistent motion across system components. There's also Seamless Interaction, which makes scrolling more fluid across supported systems and applications.

Cross-ecosystem connectivity

OriginOS 7 allows users to integrate their vivo smartphones with Apple devices they already use, like an Apple Watch or AirPods, although only certain devices are supported.

Supported Apple Watch enables notifications and synchronization of selected health data with the Origin Health App. Meanwhile, AirPods can also connect with battery information through Origin Island with support for Spatial Audio, which the brand notes is 'subject to device and regional availability.'

There's also vivo Office Kit (which allows select vivo smartphones to connect with iPad, Mac, and Windows PCs for certain tasks and file transfers) and selected iCloud content into vivo File Manager (allowing users to browse files directly within the system).

Jovi

Moving on to the AI department, vivo's OriginOS 7 includes Jovi — a personal AI agent designed to assist with activities across connected smartphones and PCs. Since this feature focuses on productivity, Jovi can retrieve files and summarize information from a connected computer to a smartphone, which is done through vivo Office Kit.

There's also Snap Note, which vivo says uses intelligent structural recognition turning photos of whiteboards and handwritten notes into editable documents in a single capture, and Jovi Security, a secure layer where key steps require direct user authorization.

Customization

Aside from its highlights, OriginOS 7 also brings new ways to personalize the lock screen, home screen, and Always-On Display. It has Wiggle Theme, which transforms personal photos into interactive surfaces that respond to touch, and Glint Theme, which uses gyroscope sensing to create dynamic light and shadow effects as the phone moves.

Meanwhile, users can also create layered compositions from photos with StickIt and interact with companion themes that also respond to touch with Pet Pals.
